If you require assistance with your game, please visit us here: http://www.popcap.com/help.php. When you first launch Bejeweled Blitz, you have two options: either sign in to Facebook to play with friends, or just enter your name to play offline.
Generally, we recommend that you play online if possible. By connecting with Facebook, you can compete with friends and family for a high score on the leaderboards! However, if you wish to play offline, simply enter your name in the space provided.
If you choose to connect to Facebook, a "Connect with Facebook" dialog box appears. Click the "Log in with Facebook" link to log in.
If you do not have a Facebook account, you can click the "Sign Up" button to create one. This takes you to the Facebook profile dialog box. Enter your first name, last name, email address, password, gender and birth date and click the "Sign Up" button. Facebook will send a confirmation email to your email address; click the attached link to activate your new Facebook account. Your progress and high scores will be saved when you quit. If there are several people playing on one computer, you will want to create separate profiles for each. To do this, first click the "Logout" button near the bottom of the Main Menu. Then click the "Click Here to Change User" link under your user name, then click the "Add a New User" link in the "Select a User" dialog box. The Options are accessible from the Main Menu screen, or by clicking the Menu button while playing the game. They are:

PLAYING THE GAME [back to top] The goal of Bejeweled Blitz is to match gems and Multipliers in order to get the highest score possible in one minute. By connecting with Facebook, you can compete with friends and family for a high score on the leaderboards! The main game screen is an 8 x 8 grid of gems. Make lines of three by swapping gems with adjacent gems. When a match is made, the matched gems disappear and more gems fall into the board from above. Create powerful Special Gems by making matches of 4 or more. Each game lasts 60 seconds. The controls of Bejeweled Blitz are simple. Swap gems either by clicking on a gem and dragging it left, right, up or down (no diagonal moves) or by clicking one gem and then clicking on an adjacent gem. Gems can only be moved if the move makes a match. Unlike in earlier versions of Bejeweled, it is possible to make matches while gems are falling in from previous matches. Use this ability for extra speed! Bejeweled Blitz also supports keyboard controls. The arrow keys move the gem reticle around the board, while the W, A, S and D keys move the selected gem in the desired direction (W moves up, A moves left, S moves down and D moves right). There are seven different kinds of gems in Bejeweled Blitz: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, white and purple. All gems behave and score the same. Making matches of particular types can convert gems into Special Gems.
When you make a match, new gems fall in from above. Sometimes those gems themselves match as soon as they land. This is a cascade, and it counts toward the original match. Cascades can stack; that is, a cascade can trigger another cascade, which can trigger another cascade, and so on. When you first begin a game, if you make a match that destroys 12 or more gems (by destroying a Flame Gem followed by a cascade, for instance), a Multiplier drops in. In subsequent 12+ matches, a Multiplier might fall in according to a complex and highly secret formula. If you match a Multiplier, that match and all subsequent scoring is multiplied by the Multiplier value. The maximum Multiplier value is 8x. If you make matches quickly enough in succession, you will earn a Speed Bonus, which is displayed in the upper left hand corner of the screen above your score. The Speed Bonus starts at 200 points and is added to the point total for the match. As you continue to make fast matches, the Speed Bonus increases to a maximum value of 1000 additional points per match. If you falter for too long, the Speed Bonus resets to zero. Once you have filled your Speed Bonus to +1000, you unlock the Ignition Meter. Keep making fast matches to fill it and activate Blazing Speed. While Blazing Speed is active the board pulses orange and every matched gem acts as a Flame Gem, exploding on the match. This is an excellent way to clear large areas of the board and pick up hard-to-get Multipliers. Every so often a yellow gem with a coin icon appears. This yellow gem matches the same as other yellow gems, but if you match it you will receive the Coin. Coins add to your Coin total and may be used to purchase Boosts (see Boosts). All unmatched Coins are added to your total at the end of the game, and you also receive a number of Coins equal to your end-of-game Multiplier level. Each unmatched Coin gem adds 100 Coins to your Coin total. Coins earned during online play are gold, while Coins earned during offline play are silver. Gold and silver Coin totals are kept separately. You can buy more gold Coins for online play (see Buying Coins below). To the left of the game board is a Hint button. Clicking it will indicate a match somewhere on the board. It costs nothing, other than time, to click the Hint button. Also to the left of the game board is a Reset button. If, after a few seconds, you decide you don't like the board layout, you may hit Reset to start over. The game score of the aborted game is not recorded, but you keep any coins you might have earned before resetting. In addition to the Hint and Reset buttons to the left of the game board is a Menu button. Clicking it brings up the Options menu (see Options), the list of available Boosts (see Boosts) and a button to take you to the Main Menu. When 60 seconds has elapsed and a game is over, you receive the Last Hurrah. During the Last Hurrah, all Special Gems and Multipliers are detonated. Detonated Multipliers do not, however, add to your post-game Multiplier level. If you score at least 25,000 points in a game, you will be awarded a Star Medal. Star Medals are awarded at 25,000 points, 50,000 points and every 25,000 points up to 250,000 points, then every 50,000 points up to 500,000 points. Star Medals appear on your Stats screen and leaderboard, and may be posted to Facebook if you choose. Once you finish a game, you will be taken to the Stats screen. The Stats screen displays your point total, your coins, your Star Medal if you earned one, your rank bar and your game in graphical form, showing your relative scoring in 5-second increments. You can share your Star Medals with your friends on Facebook. To do this, click the "Share Medal" button under your Star Medal. This opens a dialog box allowing you to post the medal to Facebook. You can enter a personal message to accompany the post in the space provided. Click "Publish" to post the Star Medal, or "Skip" if you decide not to post it after all. When connected to Facebook, the Stats screen also features a box with information about your Team Score and the Prize Drawing. The Team Score is the combination of all the scores in your leaderboard, with your own high score counted twice. When your Team Score exceeds 1,000,000 points, you become eligible to enter this week's prize drawing. To do so, click the "Sign Up Now" button in the Team Score box, then enter your email address. For full contest rules, click the "Full Contest Rules" link in the lower left hand corner of the Team Scores box underneath the Countdown to Prize Drawing. If you are not connected to Facebook, the Team Score box is replaced by a bar showing your current Ranking. The Stats screen also shows the leaderboard to the right of the game graph. If you are connected to Facebook, the leaderboard shows your current high score and the scores of your closest-scoring friends. You can use the arrows at the bottom of the leaderboard to scroll up and down the leaderboard to see how your friends stack up. If you are playing offline, your leaderboard shows your high scores. The leaderboard is reset every Tuesday morning. If you are not connected to Facebook, your leaderboard shows your own personal high scores and when you got them. You may view your friends' Star Medals and weekly scores by clicking on their leaderboard entries. Your leaderboard may also be viewed in the Records section, accessible by clicking the "Records" button on the Main Menu. At the bottom of the leaderboard is an "Invite" button. This allows you to invite Facebook friends to play Bejeweled Blitz. See Inviting Friends below for more information. At the top of the Stats screen are Boosts. Boosts are special power-ups you can buy with any Coins you have earned during play. Boosts last for three games each and come in several varieties.
Boosts may be purchased at the Stats screen, or by clicking the Menu button during a game, or by clicking the Boosts button on the Main Menu. As you play games, you win badges for hitting certain benchmarks. As you hit benchmarks, the badges improve from Bronze through Silver and Gold to Ruby. They are:
Badges may be viewed by clicking the "Badges" button on the Stats screen, or by viewing them in the Records section off the Main Menu. As you play games, your overall score totals are added to a running total. As you hit certain benchmarks, your overall rank goes up. There are 131 rank levels ranging from Novice to Elder Bejewelian. Clicking the "Records" button on the Main Menu takes you to the Records section. Here all your various achievements are recorded. The Personal section of the Records page displays your top five overall scores as well as all the badges you have earned. The Tournament section of the Records page displays your current position on the Facebook leaderboard, the various Star Medals you've earned, and a graph of your high scores for the last five weeks. Clicking the "Help" button on the Main page takes you to the Help screen. The Help screen has information on basic gameplay, Speed Bonuses, Special Gems and Coins & Boosts. Bejeweled Blitz has one game mode. However, you can play offline or online; Bejeweled Blitz is optimized for online play through Facebook. Facebook is a social networking utility used by hundreds of millions of people around the world. You can use Facebook to post messages, upload photos, connect with friends and use various applications. One of our favorite applications is Bejeweled Blitz Facebook. Bejeweled Blitz is designed to work in conjunction with Bejeweled Blitz Facebook. While the full version of Bejeweled Blitz is bigger and prettier and has lots more features than the Facebook version, the basic game rules, controls and scoring are the same, and they share leaderboards. You can create a Facebook profile by clicking the "Sign up for Facebook" link in the "Connect with Facebook" window at the beginning of Bejeweled Blitz, or you can go directly to Facebook.com and do it there. Either way, the process is simple. Enter your first name, last name, email address, a password, your gender and birth date and click "Sign Up." Enter the security keywords and Facebook will send a confirmation email to the provided email address. Open the confirmation email and click on the provided link to activate your new Facebook profile. You can invite your Facebook friends to play Bejeweled Blitz. If they accept your invitation, they will appear on your leaderboard and contribute to your Team Score. To invite friends to play Bejeweled Blitz, click the "Invite" button at the bottom of your leaderboard (either on the Stats screen or in the Tournament section of the Records screen). This opens your default web browser and takes you to a Facebook login page. After you log in, you are taken to an Invite Friends page. There are several ways you can select friends to invite. You can type a friend's name into the space provided. You can invite up to eight friends by clicking on their pictures. You can filter your friend list by clicking on the "Filter Friends" menu near the upper left corner of the Invite Friends screen. Finally, you can type friends' email addresses into the box near the bottom of the screen. If you decide not to invite any friends after all, you can click the "Skip" button near the upper right of the Invite Friends screen. Once you have decided which friends to invite, click the "Send Bejeweled Blitz Invitation" button near the lower left of the Invite Friends screen to send the invitation. This opens a "Send this Bejeweled Blitz Invitation?" window where you may add a personal message to your invitation. Click the "Send" button to send the invitation. Once you have sent the invitation, you may invite more friends by clicking the "Invite More Friends" button. If you're done inviting friends, close the browser window. It can take 24 hours or more for your friends to show up on the leaderboard depending on when they accept the invitation and allow the application. You can buy more gold Coins for online play. To buy Coins, click "Get More Coins" on the boost bar. This takes you to the Facebook Blitz store where you may spend Facebook credits to buy gold Coins for online play. You cannot buy silver Coins for offline play. Facebook credits are currency units you can buy from Facebook that allow you to purchase items (such as Bejeweled Blitz Coins) on Facebook. For more more details on how Facebook credits work, consult: As mentioned above, Bejeweled Blitz has the same basic game rules, controls and scoring whether it is played online or off. However, there are some key differences between the two modes of play.
The base value for a single match (3 gems) is 250 points. The base value for creating a Flame Gem is 500 points. The base value for detonating a Flame Gem is 250 points for making the match, 100 points for detonating the Flame Gem, and 100 points per gem destroyed (including the Flame Gem). The base value for creating a Hypercube is 500 points. The base value for detonating a Hypercube is 250 for the detonation plus 250 points per gem destroyed. The base value for creating a Star Gem is 750 points. The base value for detonating a Star Gem is 250 points for the detonation plus 250 points per gem destroyed. The base value for making two simultaneous matches is 250 per match plus a 250 point bonus, or 750 points. The base value for matching a Multiplier is 1000 points x the Multiplier value. The base value for matching a Coin Gem is 1250 points plus 250 points for the match, or 1500 points total. The base value for a cascade is 250 bonus points per cascade. So, a match that creates two cascades would score 250 points, plus 500 points, plus 750 points, or 1500 points total. The base value of the Speed Bonus starts at 200 points and is added to the score for a match. Speed Bonuses increase by 100 points each match as long as the Speed Bonus is maintained to a maximum of 1000 points. The base value for an unused Detonate Boost or Scramble Boost is 1500 points each. All these values (except for the Multiplier's base value) are then multiplied by the current Multiplier value. Moves that match Multipliers are multiplied by that Multiplier value. Each unmatched Coin gem adds 100 to your Coin total.
